If you have been following lifestyle blogs in the States, you might have heard of Rachel Hollis – founder of the lifestyle website and CEO of her own media company, Chic Media. Rachel is someone I look up to because she boldly shares tips for living a better life while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own. It’s no wonder that she has has amassed a huge online fan base by the hundreds of thousands.
Now comes her highly anticipated first book titled, “Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be”, featuring her signature combination of honesty, humor, and direct no-nonsense advice.
Holding Girl, Wash Your Face in my hands and reading this book is akin to having my best friend sitting down next to me, putting her arms around my shoulders, pouring out her deepest darkest secrets, and assuring me that she’s been there done that. That I’m not alone. That I am able to pull through what life throws at me and emerge victorious!
Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up.
I love how the author, Rachel, is so comfortable with herself to do exactly that – sharing a big part of her past, because she wants you to stop believing in those lies that others and even you have been telling yourself for years and years – big untruths that you are not _____ enough. You fill in the blanks. Not smart enough, not brave enough, not pretty enough, not motherly enough… the list goes on. You get the point.
As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, Rachel speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF. I am very thankful to have read the advice and tips which Rachel has to offer from the rich experiences she had gone through.
This book is going to be one of those that you would want to re-visit whenever you meet a snag down the road called life. Her wisdom and words of encouragement will grab you by your shoulders and lift you up from the ground, sweep off the dust, and nudge you to move forward.
